Dan Young is a native Delawarean and the product of a family of educators and the Delaware public school system. He graduated from Concord High School and then received his Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Master’s degree in Finance and Marketing from the University of Delaware’s Honors Program and his Ph.D. in Social an Behavioral Marketing from Temple University.
He spent over a decade as a Certified Financial Planner (tm) Practitioner with Ameriprise Financial Advisors as an employee advisor (Ameriprise's Advisor of the Year in 2001), district manager, and independent advisor. After leaving Ameriprise to begin a career in higher education, Dan became one of the first entrepreneurship adjunct professors at the University of Delaware. Historically, Dan is the first African-American adjunct professor to lead a study-abroad program for the Lerner College of Business and the first professor to ever lead a study-abroad program for the Horn Program in Entrepreneurship. He has also taught at Temple University, West Chester University of Pennsylvania, and Wilmington University.
In 2018, Dan was tasked with creating the Doctor of Business Administration Program at Goldey-Beacom College as its Founding Director. He is the faculty advisor to GBC's award-winning Entrepreneurship Club, as well as the organizer of TEDxGoldeyBeacomCollege and co-organizer of TEDxDover and TEDxHarlem. .
Dan has served on a number of Boards of local organizations including the Delaware Theater Company, the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League Guild, the Western Family YMCA, First Tee of Delaware and the Gamma Theta Lambda Educational Foundation. He also currently serves on the board of the Delaware Chapter of the ACLU.
On a weekly basis, Dan is a member of the Wilmington Rotary Club and has chaired its Community Service Project with Delaware Futures, the Membership Committee, and the Attendance Committee. He is also a member of the University & Whist Club. As a serial entrepreneur, Dan has founded a number of companies, including the National Tailgating Experience and Young Consulting Group. Dan considers his greatest accomplishment to be raising his four children.
