My Calling will Become a Trade
Soon in this country there will be two types of medical providers: those who demand fee-forservice, and those who will see as many patients as possible to make as much money as possible. In one case those with affluence will still see medical providers quickly, while everyone else will have to wait in line. I have stated multiple times that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will in fact make healthcare more unaffordable and more inaccessible for millions of Americans. I am not ju

Medicaid Busting the Delaware Budget
Delaware has the eighth highest Medicaid expense per capita of the continental states according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. It is expected the state will spend $680 million in the 2012 fiscal year, 40% higher than the $487 million spent in 2010 (the federal government also spent over $700 million on Medicaid in Delaware in 2010). More money is spent on Medicaid than education and it is the fastest growing budget item. Delaware offers more generous benefits

Your DNA can be sequenced in a matter of minutes and more information about your future c

Who is at Fault for High Healthcare Costs?
I want to point out an article by Elisabeth Rosenthal in the New York Times "The $2.7 trillion Medical Bill" ( http://nyti.ms/13bPXcm ) which many people have been asking me questions about. While almost everything said is true, it is neither the whole truth nor the overarching truth. When you disconnect cost from service, two things happen: First, fees escalate, and second, consumption escalates. The increased fees and increased volume distort the laws of supply and d

State Oriented Health Insurance Reform
With the enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the national health policy debate has entered a new phase. Washington has embarked on an effort to exercise control over the entire health care sector of the economy, which now accounts for one out of every six dollars in American wallets. Washingtons agenda is to transfer both private and state health policy decision-making to the federal government, particularly the U.S. Department of Health and Human Ser

Look to the Indian Health Services for the Future of Government-Paid and Run Healthcare
It appears more and more each day that the ultimate goal of the ACA is the institution of a single payer national healthcare delivery system similar to those of all socialized countries. While the purported driver of healthcare reform was the uninsured population and the effort to provide something similar to Medicare or Medicaid to that population, the underlying economic driver of healthcare reform was, in fact, the overwhelming demographic data that both Medicare and Medi

Health Care and the Tyranny of Experts
This article first appeared in The News Journal print edition January 14, 2015 and at Delawareonline.com January 13, 2015. Read the original HERE When I read Delaware’s proposed Health Care Innovation Plan, I can’t help but think of the German economy under the top-down control implemented in the 1930s. Other than coal, Germany had to import most of the natural resources that drove its economy. The imports included oil, ore for steel, aluminum and copper, and grain to feed l
