Patients Deserve to Know Who Is Providing Their Healthcare
Delaware patients should know whether the healthcare professional diagnosing and treating them is a physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or another licensed healthcare professional. But patients don't always receive that information.

Patients Deserve Transparency
Delaware has expanded the authority of nonphysician healthcare professionals to independently diagnose and treat patients.
That makes transparency more important—not less.
Patients shouldn't have to decipher titles like MD, DO, APRN, NP, DNP, or PA to understand who is providing their care. They should be clearly informed of the professional license of the person diagnosing and treating them.
What's at Stake?
Delaware law already recognizes that medical titles matter, but patients are not always affirmatively told what type of healthcare professional is treating them.
In 2024, lawmakers introduced the Healthcare Professional Transparency Act, House Bill 447, which would have strengthened disclosure requirements for healthcare professionals. The bill never became law.
Delaware lawmakers have an opportunity to bring it back—and strengthen it.
