CaesarRodney250 Presents:

Reinstating Caesar Rodney – A Legacy Worth Remembering

(Newark, DE) -- As the United States prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026, Delaware reflects on how it remembers one of its most important figures: Caesar Rodney.

On Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, from 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM at the Wilmington Public Library, the Caesar Rodney Institute (CRI), through its CaesarRodney250 initiative, will host a free civics education event exploring Rodney’s role in American independence and the ongoing discussion surrounding his legacy.

Rodney’s 80-mile midnight ride secured Delaware’s vote for independence. The Caesar Rodney statue was removed from Rodney Square in 2020 due to significant controversy, and there has been little public discussion about its return. A panel of community leaders will discuss Rodney’s contributions, the history of Rodney Square, and the challenges of historical memory in public spaces.

"Now more than ever, having meaningful conversations about how we honor history is important. This event offers a chance to reflect on Caesar Rodney’s impact and engage in civic dialogue." -- John Toedtman, Executive Director, Caesar Rodney Institute
